History
Through the formation of the Mid-Iowa Health Foundation in 1984, local
leaders carried on the tradition of Northwest Community Hospital,
which had supported the health of its community for over 20 years. Endowed by proceeds
of the sale of the hospital, the Foundation commits resources to improving
health in greater Des Moines.
New Direction
Aligning with the vision of its strategic plan, the Foundation implemented
the Health Initiatives
Grant Program.
Through this program, the Foundation guides significant investments
in specific projects or activities addressing community health priorities,
in partnership with other health providers and entities.

Through the Foundation’s Community
Response Grant Program, grants are awarded to
nonprofit agencies to begin or continue the work of improving
health.
Together, these two grant programs translate the mission of the
Mid-Iowa Health Foundation, and keep it responsive to the needs
of its community.
Over the years, true results of Foundation investments are measured
in the improved health of children and adults whose lives are changed
by the work of dedicated community partners.
