UpLift – The Central Iowa Basic Income Pilot launches website

February 14, 2023

A new website – UpLiftIowa.org – has been launched to keep the community informed of project updates and findings with UpLift – The Central Iowa Basic Income Pilot. Details about how to apply to participate are now available online, and recruitment will take place February 17-27, 2023.

UpLift is a cross-sector collaboration that is studying the impacts of central Iowans receiving a basic income to inform future poverty-reduction strategies. Over two years, 110 low-income individuals living in Polk, Warren, and Dallas counties will each receive an unrestricted $500 monthly stipend. Researchers will track how participants use the stipend each month and will compare various health and well-being outcomes of stipend recipients to those of 140 individuals who do not receive a stipend.

The Harkin Institute for Public Policy & Civic Engagement at Drake University is coordinating project implementation.
