Izaah Knox

Executive Director for Urban Dreams and Mid-Iowa Health Foundation Board Member

Izaah JB Knox joined Mid-Iowa Health Foundation's Board of Directors in 2019 and serves on the Investment and Governance Committees. He is also the Executive Director for Urban Dreams and an Iowa State Senator representing District 17. Previously, he worked as a community outreach consultant at Wellmark Blue Cross Blue Shield and as an adjunct, advisor, and YouthBuild education coordinator at Des Moines Area Community College. 

Izaah sits on multiple boards, commissions, and advisory and steering committees, and is active in many other ways. He is the immediate past-chair of the Des Moines Human and Civil Rights Commission and a tri-chair of the Capital Crossroads 2.0 Social Capital. Izaah has received the following recognitions: United States of America President’s Volunteer Service Award (2012), Iowa’s Most Interesting and Influential People by the Des Moines Register (2013), Register Person to Watch (2015), Des Moines Business Record Forty Under 40 (2016), a Business Person to Know in the DSM Book of Lists (2019), and Iowa’s Top 500 Most Influential Business Leaders (2024). Izaah is a two-time Drake University graduate with an undergraduate degree in journalism and a master’s degree in Education. He is pursuing a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from Iowa State University.
