Attorney at Belin McCormick and Mid-Iowa Health Foundation Board Member
Nola Cartmill is an attorney at Belin McCormick, P.C., where she advises employers and organizations on employment law, workplace issues, litigation, and complex people-related challenges. Her work centers on helping leaders make thoughtful, practical decisions that account for legal risk, organizational impact, and the real people affected by those decisions.
Before returning to private practice, Nola served as Chief Diversity Officer and Legal Counsel for a multi-state organization, partnering closely with executive leadership, human resources teams, and operational leaders. That experience gave her a front-row view of how policy, leadership, culture, and access shape outcomes inside organizations and communities. It also deepened her commitment to work that moves beyond reacting to problems and toward building systems that are more intentional, equitable, and sustainable.
Nola grew up in Fort Madison, Iowa, and returned to Des Moines after law school to begin her legal career at Belin McCormick. She most recently served on the Des Moines Performing Arts Board as Immediate Past Chair and is a frequent speaker on leadership, workplace culture, and organizational trust.
Outside the office, Nola enjoys Broadway musicals, Iowa Hawkeye football, Chicago Bears football, traveling, and spending time with her family. She is also the proud mom of a daughter who keeps her humble, fully booked, and occasionally dressed in a matching outfit.
