NAMI and DMU Partnership

DMU students attend a NAMI walk in Des Moines.

In 2018, Des Moines University (DMU) became the nation's first medical school to partner with the National Alliance on Mental Health (NAMI) to offer its provider education program to third-year osteopathic medical students. The program teaches students how to recognize mental illness among patients and treat them or refer them to appropriate care givers. Mid-Iowa Health Foundation provided initial funding to launch the program.
